Hey guys, this is Kevin from JazTime.com,
and today we'll be doing a comparison
between two Rolex watches.
On my left here we have the Rolex Yacht Master 40,
the one one six six two two,
versus the Rolex Milgauss here on my right,
reference number one one six 400 GV.
We'll be going over the pricing, dials, bezels,
case, crown, bracelet, glass, and we'll talk about
their movement towards the end of the video.
Okay, so for the price differencing,
the Rolex Yacht Master 40, you can get this at a Rolex
retailer for one, or, for one, $11,550, or you can get it
at JazTime.com for as low as $9,700.
For the Milgauss, you're looking at 8,200 from a retailer.
With the, with our price at JazTime being $7,200, okay?
So we're almost at a $2,000 price difference.
Hopefully this comparison video will help you,
help you decide on which watch to go for.
All right, so let's go ahead and start with the dials first.
So for dial configurations, both of them don't have
too many, too many dial configurations.
The Rolex Yacht Master comes in this beautiful
light blue and rhodium, or it can also come in the full
platinum, which is a platinum dial, just platinum colored,
or you're looking at a dark blue with red text
and red seconds hand.
Just to clarify on the platinum, the platinum,
the third option was the platinum dial,
with red seconds hand and red, red Yacht Master two text at
the bottom there, or Yacht Master text at the bottom there.
For the Milgauss, the only dial configuration you can get
is you can get it in the green, this green sapphire crystal
with black, black dial, orange accented three, six, and nine
markers or you can get it in the blue dial,
the blue sunburst dial, with orange, orange accents,
but just regular basic white index markers.
Additionally, they're under the same
reference number without the GV.
You can get it with the plain crystal and white dial.
Okay?
So let's go turning to look at the differences now.
Of course the differences already
show with the hour markers.
The hour markers on the Yacht Master uses a *** dial
which is a 30% larger than normal hour markers,
with circular hour markers with index six, nine and 12,
12 being a triangle.
It makes for easier readability.
It is, it is luminescent coated,
so it will glow in the dark.
The hands as well, the hands are easy to read as well,
as we have the Mercedes hour hand, and the minute hand.
All of these things are on coat, are fashioned
in 18 karat white gold to prevent any tarnishing.
For the Milgauss we have all index markers,
we have all index stick markers.
The second hand unfortunately does not have any luminosity
but it is unique with that thunderbolt looking orange hand,
which is very cool, very cool to see.
The index markers for the white and the orange accented
three, six, and nine will all glow in the dark.
The hands unfortunately are just very simple stick hands
with the tips being luminous, whereas the Yacht Master has
the full luminous minute hand and a full luminous hour hand.
So, for readability Yacht Master wins there.
One thing I do wanna mention though for the glow,
the luminosity portion, is that for the Rolex Milgauss
the white index markers will glow green,
whereas the accents, the, the act, orange accented
hour markers will glow blue.
So interesting contrast there.
Difference in sapphire crystal as well.
As you can see the sapphire crystal is,
it has a green tinted, green tinted look to it,
whereas the Yacht Master's just a plain clear sapphire
crystal, and specifically that green tint
is only for the Milgauss.
The Milgauss line only, is the only line that carry,
only Rolex watch that carries that green sapphire crystal.
Okay?
With that said, the one, one huge difference is that
the Yacht Master comes with a date window
at the three o'clock position, with a cyclops lens
on top of that crystal, for easier viewing
and magnification of that date,
whereas the Milgauss does not have any open apertures,
as it's, it doesn't have any open apertures
because this watch was originally created
with magnetic fields in mind.
So the, the, the watch makers did not want any open areas
on the watch to let any magnetic fields in.
This is very, this is a very closed watch.
Okay?
So moving on to the bezel now, the bezel we only have
the, we have the, what we, I believe the world has
coined the term that's called Rolesium, yeah, Rolesium,
Rolesium, Rolesium bezel which is a platinum,
platinum bezel with high polish, high polish numerals
from the 10 minute, or 60 minute gradation all around.
It's, the bezel itself, is uni directional,
is bi directional, I apologize, bi directional,
and can help with elapsed time.
As the name states, it is used for tracking lap times
for yacht races and such.
So if you're interested in learning how that works
we do have multiple videos on how the bezels work
with other watch videos.
For the Milgauss we have just a very simple, plain
high polished dome bezel, which has a very nice shine,
but it's also very plain as well.
It's very simplistic.
Okay?
For the case size you're actually
looking at the same sized case.
It's a 40 millimeter in diameter case,
40 millimeter in diameter case.
One huge difference is the side profile of the watch.
So let's show you here.
So, with the Yacht Master we have a thinner profile,
and the Milgauss you can see it has a much higher profile,
more pronounced.
Like I said before, the reason why the Milgauss has a more,
has a more pronounced case is that it's because it's been
double cased with a magnetic shield case with an additional
oyster case to close that in, to prevent any magnetic fields
from messing with the movement, whereas the Yacht Master
has the very basic, very basic Rolex movement.
So as you can see, it keeps that
at a nice thin, slim profile.
So if you're looking to fit under, fit one of these watches
under dress cuffs, suit cuffs very easily,
you're probably gonna be looking
at the Yacht Master instead of the Milgauss, okay?
Both watches have high polishes on the side, as you can see.
One thing to mention is that the Yacht Master is a sports
watch, so it will have crown guards on the, crown guards
on the side, as shown, while the Milgauss has
no crown guards to do, to protect the crown.
However both crowns are the same in terms of functionality,
or rather they're similar, they're similar in build
as they are twin locked double waterproofness systems.
Specifically for the Yacht Master of course it will have
an additional function on the crown, on the crown, because
we have the date aperture at the three o'clock position.
So I'll go ahead and show you
how that works here really quickly.
So crown unscrews counter clockwise, and the hand,
and the hand, rather the hand winding position,
which you can wind the watch, a small tug of that crown
will let you adjust the date, as shown.
This is the feature that the Milgauss does not have,
and if you, if this was the Milgauss it would only
pull out to this final position, in which you can
set the hands bi directionally.
For both watches the hack movement, or the seconds hand will
stop moving, and that allows for precise time setting,
such as if you have a, you wanna set it down to the exact
seconds on an atomic clock, you can, and always make sure
to screw the crown nice and tight against the case, as that
keeps the specific yacht, this Yacht Master water resistant
for up to 100 meters or 330 feet,
and that is the same case with the Milgauss.
So they both have the same water resistance of that
100 meters or 330 feet, when the crown is fully,
fully, tightly screwed in.
Okay?
For the bracelet now they actually have the same
bracelets, which is the oyster bracelets,
which is a little surprising with the Yacht Master
as it is a sports watch.
They opted to go with a high polish center,
high polish center piece, apologize,
high polish center with a three piece link oyster.
So we have the satin finish on the sides,
on the sides of the bracelet.
So as you can see, and then we have
the high polish down the center.
It adds a nice contrasting shine, and the pattern's
throughout, throughout the watch,
even through the clasp itself.
So for the clasp we actually have different style clasps
even though they're, they look very similar.
For the Yacht Master it has a sportier style clasp,
which is the safety oyster lock, which as shown,
here's the safety.
There's this little hinge that sits on top of the folding
oyster, as so, whereas the Milgauss just has
a folding oyster, folding oyster clasp.
It pops out very easily.
They both have the same clasp blade which is a high polish
clasp, high polish clasp blades with the Rolex name embossed
onto the clasp blade itself, and they both have the same,
the same functionality on the clasp, which is, I'll actually
show you here with the Yacht Master.
On the back inner portion of the clasp you actually need
a tool to adjust but you can actually adjust
these little pins here in the back.
You'll have to get a tool to adjust those pins
and these little indentations.
You can adjust the bracelet five millimeters forwards
or backwards and that's for both cases of the watch.
That's called the easy link, as Rolex has stated.
They have actually come out with a better version
with, on other watches where you
can adjust it simply by snapping.
So even though they both have that same functionality
in terms of adjusting five millimeters forwards or backwards
to give your wrist a little more breathing space,
it is kind of a little bit of a hassle to carry a tool
just to adjust your watch.
Okay?
So the last thing we wanna talk about here is the movement.
So for the movement we'll start with the Yacht Master first.
The Yacht Master houses its movement in this simple
oyster case back which uses the very popular
in house made Rolex movement, which is a professional
mechanical self winding movement that calibrates
31 35 movement, which is a movement used in submariner,
the submariners line, or deep seas and such.
It has a position of minus two plus two seconds a day,
with the functioning of the center, hour, minute,
and seconds hand, instantaneous changing of the data,
and the stopping of the seconds for precise time setting
as I've shown you with the crown.
It has a power reserve of 48 hours.
So if you can put this down on the Monday month,
or rather, a Friday evening, and pick it back up
on a Sunday evening and it should still be keeping time.
So that was the Yacht Master.
For the Milgauss, for the Milgauss we have that same oyster
case back but it's a little bit different as it's actually
a, housed are, in the, in the inside it has a magnetic
shield, magnetic shield case back, or casing inside,
and the oyster, the oyster casing goes on top of that,
and that locks, that locks in the movement to prevent any
of the magnetic fields from, from screwing
with the balance wheel or the hair spring.
If the magnetic fields were to actually to actually were
to affect those things the watch could start,
or would speed up in timekeeping or run too slow.
So the movement that Rolex created was the perpetual
mechanical self winding movement which is the caliber 31 31
in house maiden movement.
It has the same precision of minus two plus two seconds
a day which only exists to the function is as the center,
hour, minute, and seconds hand with stopping
of the seconds hand, or seconds for precise time setting.
There are also layers of para magnetic blue pericomb hair
spring which additional boost its magnetic resistance.
The power reserve is exactly the same,
however, it's going to be 48 hours.
All right, so let me actually go ahead and show you this
watch on my wrist now, these two watches, side by side.
So once again, with the safety clasp.
Safety, safety, folding, snap, bam, simple, easy.
So that rhodium dial, absolutely gorgeous
with that blue contrast.
That light, you can kind of see that light's, light tilting
against that dial, that's ember style.
Absolutely gorgeous.
It doesn't sit too high on the wrist.
Now let's go ahead and show you the Milgauss now.
Milgauss also very simple.
Just bam, fold it on and there's that Milgauss.
Absolutely unique dial with that thunderbolt,
the orange thunderbolt hand, that green sapphire crystal
that only Milgauss line contains.
The high polish really bringing out more,
more of the watch.
So there's the two watches.
