[music] >> Monica We wanted to in the beginning of
the year kind of introduce the students to what it means to be healthy. We started off
on Monday by introducing our herb garden. We're going to harvest the herbs basil, rosemary
and cilantro to be used at our pizza station. >>Nutritionist We're having a healthy food
fear factor today just as an example to show you new, up and coming food trends that are
out there and the health benefits of these new foods.
>>Monica We kind of saw that a lot of new foods were trending this year and we figured
that students should know what's going on and what new foods have hit the market.
>>Nutritionist We have purple potatoes first. It's as beneficial as eating a blueberry,
anti-cancer causing, great antioxidant source. What we see here is kamut. It's the new up
and coming super grain. >>Monica It has a funny texture. It's really
fun to eat. The seaweed crackers, they're kind of a spicy on the alternative snack side.
>>Nutritionist A great example of getting vitamins, minerals, B12 especially if you're
a vegetarian or vegan. >>Monica And the gluten-free pretzels are
a big hit as well. It's really educational in the way we're informing them of the new,
different types of food they aren't used to eating every day, especially here in the cafeteria.
Growing our own herbs, purchasing local produce and things like that, just to show our students
that we do care. [music]
