Hello, I am Teresa Piruzza, Minister Responsible for Women's Issues.
International Women's Week is a time to celebrate the progress that has been made in advancing
women's equality around the world, and here at home.
For 30 years, the Ontario Women's Directorate has been proud to recognize the achievements
- and leadership - of women in Ontario.
This year, the United Nations theme for International Women's Week is "Equality for women is progress
for all."
As women, we have seen considerable progress -
But we must continue to recognize and address gaps to equality and work hard to break down
the barriers to women's advancement.
Our government is focused on increasing the number of women who are employed in skilled
trades and in the information technology sectors.
And we also want better representation of women on corporate boards.
We see these challenges as opportunities, where we can make progress in the near future.
This year, during International Women's Week, I salute all women and girls who have shown
leadership in making progress toward equality for women.
From March 2 through March 8, communities across Ontario will celebrate International
Women's Week.
I invite you to participate in your community's events, and I encourage you to look for ways
that you can support women's equality -
Because Ontario is stronger when we all work together for equality.
