I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to show you tips and techniques that
I use while mounting/dismounting my horse. Now I am going to go over some steps with
you on how you can dismount safely off of your horse. Of course, you want to make sure
that your horse is standing still or not fidgeting around or they are not spooking or they are
not startled at anything because you never want your horse to spook while you are half
way out of the saddle because that could cause some danger to yourself. So what you want
to do is take your reins in one hand and make sure you have a little bit of control over
them. You don't want to have super long reins but we are going to keep them a little bit
shorter. What we are going to do is place our left hand on the side of the neck. We
are going to take our right foot out of the right stirrup, we are going to swing our leg
over, we are going to let our left foot out of the stirrup and we are going to slide down.
So you want to make sure that you've got of your feet out of the stirrups before you slide
down. That way in case you would happen to startle or spook at something you wouldn't
be hung up in the saddle and get drug along so just kick both of your feet out of the
stirrups, swing your right leg over and then you can slide down. That's a really nice safe
easy way to dismount a horse.
