Hello! I am Deborah Diaz, the Deputy Chief Information Officer here at NASA.
NASA's Information Technology infrastructure is about to go through a significant transformation.
The Information Technology Infrastructure Integration Program or I3P,
is NASA's initiative to provide Agency-wide management... integration...
and delivery of information technology (IT) services to support mission success.
The goal of I3P is to increase IT service...
security... and efficiency across the Agency.
I3P is the largest Agency-wide IT effort NASA has ever undertaken.
It will completely restructure our approach to Information Technology management and service delivery.
This initiative is more than a re-compete of IT service contracts that are expiring.
I3P is an opportunity to transform our overall IT operations.
Our Centers have done an amazing job of delivering IT services to their customers at NASA...
but we recognize the need to spread local innovation across the Agency.
We are moving from a system that has historically been:
Center-based, Fragmented, Customized and, Stove piped
Now NASA infrastructure and services will be:
Agency-wide, Consolidated, Standardized and, Collaborative
This effort will impact the following IT areas at both the Agency and Center level:
Enterprise Service Desk, Enterprise Applications, End-User Services, Web Services...
Integrated Network and Comunications Services, and Enterprise Data Centers
Each of these areas will be rolled out in phases starting in 2011 for a minimal impact to NASA.
An Enterprise Service Desk, or ESD for short, will provide NASA with one consolidated help desk,
a self-service website and an enterprise notification service.
Work has already begun in this area and NASA staff will receive more details about the impacts this fall.
Changes begin as early as January 2011.
The ESD will feature a new automated system for trouble tickets and service requests.
Customers across the Agency will be able to go online and select IT infrastructure services
in the same way you do online shopping and then proceed to "checkout."
The service request capability will provide 24-7 availability.
Web enterprise service technologies or WEST will provide a consolidated web environment
and integration of NASA's public web content.
The WEST service area includes:
Public Website Hosting, Web Content Management, and Integration and Search Services
Implementation of WEST is planned to begin in early 2011.
The next area is enterprise applications.
Enterprise application service technologies or EAST will ensure the continued delivery of
enterprise application services through the NASA Enterprise Applications Competency Center.
Applications include, for example:
SAP: the Agency Financial System, WebTADS Time Entry System, Contract Management Module,
and Human Capital Information Environment
Implementation of EAST is planned to begin in early 2011.
The next service area is comunications services.
NASA Integrated Comunications services or NICS will consolidate
NASA Integrated Services Network and center local area networks and services.
This contract includes management of:
Wide-Area Networks, Local-Area Networks, Telecommunications, and Video and Data Services
Implementation of NICS is planned to begin in late Spring 2011.
Next is end-user services.
ACES will provide a consolidated solution for the purchasing, management and support of:
Desktops, Laptops, Copiers, Printers, PDAs, and Cell Phones, E-mail, Calendaring and Office Software.
Implementation of ACES is planned to begin in Summer 2011.
Next service is data centers.
NASA enterprise data center or NEDC will consolidate data center services both
at the NASA center level and Agency wide.
This contract could include: Data Center Operations, Application hosting and Housing Services
Storage Services, and License Management
NEDC is currently in a strategic design phase with an RFP expected in 2011.
We know you have additional questions.
More details will be coming this fall as we prepare for the Enterprise Service Desk
changes that begin to rollout in January 2011.
We will continue to provide more detailed information on I3P through
both our public and internal NASA websites.
The internal site will begin to offer comunications updates as we transition and rollout I3P.
You can currently download our I3P overview brochure on the internal site.
So...Stay tuned and stay informed. An effort of this scale is never easy,
but is a long-term investment that will strengthen our IT service, delivery,
provide innovative solutions and increase cost efficiencies to meet NASA's future mission.
Thank you for your time.
