well I so appreciate you taking the time to share your
information about this
and I love the passion you have for the field and
for technology. I think it is
really great for you to be able share it without everyone else.
You I can't share it enough.
i mean this interview was
just about my app
but the whole area of mobile technology as related I mean in general
in education
but then in specifically in the area disability is just
i'm still just stunned by it and
I told our graduate students a year ago uh... you guys are standing here you
can watch the world change. You are going to watch hisotry changed you look back and you
think that you remember a time
before this is what we have
because this is it's that big and um... it is in and I love that I get to see it
and be part of it.
so there's never a better time i think.
Being an apple distinguished educators is
like the most amazing experience of my professional life truly ever
It has been uh...
just this rich with opportunities with network with things i've learned uh...
but what I tell people people are like how do they pay you? Do you get
free stuff? Do you like what'd what'd they do for you? What do you do for them?
it feels like although it's not it feels like an internship without Apple
because it allows me to plug into
uh... and I say elite I don't mean like ooh we're all so much better than
everybody else's but it's a small selected group. So in that way it is
sort of this smaller pool of
teachers
from all over the country and actually all over the world
who are doing the most amazing cutting-edge out there stuff with apple
technology
so we all live in our little worlds and we all live in our school districts or our
universities
and many of us who are uh... interested in the mobile technology or or apple
technology in general
we're often a small group
so so here we are out there like saying this is amazing. This is amazing
but you're not generally surrounded by thousands of people who
are the same things you're doing or thinking the same things you're thinking
so spend a week with two hundred fifty some people
all of whom you just look at you think
i don't have any idea how i got to be a part this group. Like I have no idea how
i'm here but
I don't care because like forget you forget that
this is not doing any forget districts are not doing it, that people are not interested you forget that
people have barriers and you just living in this bubble of possibilities and
potential ingenuity and creativity and
it's just
it's like
breathes life into you. So its been amazing so its application process. every two
years they take on new ADEs
and i recommend anyone who's in the field of education who is using Apple technology 0:03:12.409,0:03:16.439 technology inc really research is in creative ways kids should apply because is an opportunity
of a life time for sure.
uh... wow that is so exciting.
Do you have to be currently teaching students K-12?
No it's higher education as well
so uh... and actually there's it's kind of represented across the board there
was a guy in my class the class of two thousand eleven
who was teaching at I think at a community college
paramedics
and he was using mobile technologies and really cool ways and and so i
love that apple
kind of sees all of that and in selects those people who really represent
that cross section of educators. So yeah, K-12,
you know
higher education and um... a variety of other ways people are using it in education.
So you went and had your one week experience at the
institute
now are there additional resources that you access to
because of this?
yeah well i mean what institute among many other things we were grouped together. So I was
part of an accessibility group
uh... uh... and we're
the project that was set in front of us is to design some content
for iTunesU
that specifically under ADE so if you go to iTunesU under
beyond on campus
there's the whole section of apple distinguished educators
and it just launched a few months ago uh...
all working to put
meaningful content into that collection
so that's going to be an ongoing
work in progress uh... so uh...
so we're all doing that
uh...
as far as networking and resources and I mean we're part of a sort of an
online community so uh... lots of opportuntiies for that
uh... and then a smaller group that i became a part of the it's like this new
group of people who are doing really cool stuff and truly honestly way
beyond what I am doing
I mean these are people who are presenting a national international conferences
and are well known names in the field and I mean just that I
get to facetime with them.
I can't believe I get to be so lucky.
And everyone said this all the people who were alumni
they said it just like opens up your world in a way you can you can ever imagine and
it's hard to describe
