[Narrator] The fall of 2011 will usher in a new living learning community.
[Chelsey Childress – WIU Broadcasting Student] Hello my name is Chelsey Childress
and I'm a senior here at Western Illinois University.
I pretty much live in the broadcasting department as it is.
I'm assuming that since you're watching this video
you're interested in a broadcasting career that's great.
I'm assuming also since you're interested in broadcasting that
you maybe want to be a sports play-by-play announcer
a television news anchor or a reporter or maybe a
radio disc jockey this is were you're dreams can start.
Because the faculty and staff are so dedicated to student dreams
they've created a living, learning, community
all exclusive for freshmen of the fall 2011.
The fifth floor of Tanner Hall is going to be transformed
into a broadcasting central station.
The benefits of this living, learning, community are tremendous
not only are you living and working with fellow broadcasting students
but you're also going to be able to study
with them for exams, get help on projects.
There's going to be mentors and tutors from
the broadcasting department that will be there with you.
In addition; and this is the cool part
there's going to be digitizing stations,
audio recording equipment
and video editing equipment on that floor.
Along with all the other benefits of the living, learning, community
field trips will be taken throughout the semester
you're going to be able to visit
radio stations and television stations across the tri-state area.
Tours will be set up were you'll go with
fellow students and faculty members to hang-out
and just see all the equipment, interact with the personnel and staff
at the radio station or TV station and just be able
to take a tour and see how the real world operates.
In case you're still unsure of what the living, learning, community is all about.
This is a great example of one of the many benefits
that the living, learning, community can bring you.
You have the opportunity to sit and dine with
faculty and staff with the broadcasting department
and other fellow broadcasting students.
This is a great way to help with you're networking skills,
broadcasting projects and just get to know the people that
you're going to be working with for the next four years.
The faculty and staff are dedicated to you're success
they will help you out in every aspect possible of you're broadcasting career.
So make sure and take advantage of this living, learning, community.
Come out and have a lunch or dinner with
the faculty and staff of the broadcasting department here at Western Illinois.
