Summon is an easy way to search for information. Go to library.hud.ac.uk/summon to see the
search page.
Put your search terms for your chosen topic. In this case I use “academic writing”.
The results list a range of resources the library buys access to, including books, journal
articles and other electronic resources, so you may get a lot of results. You can see
from the little icon under each title the different sorts of content. Here we have mainly
journal articles, books and electronic books.
To reduce these results, use the options on the left hand side of the screen.
You can modify your search, include or exclude different types of content and you can specify
how recently the item was published.
Look through your results to see what you would like to read.
Clicking on the title of it will open it in a new window. Often this takes you straight
to the full text, though sometimes there is an interim screen with more options to choose
from.
If you don’t get access to the full text, look for more options using the blue tool
bar at the top of the screen.
When you find the full text, which is normally a PDF, you can print it or save it for later.
