When you hear Jaguar, you might think of old men with cigars...
...driving around in a nice classic dark green sedan with brown leather.
And then this thing flies past.
The Jaguar XKR.
And in this livery I think it looks very hot.
There's no other word for it. How cool does this car look?
This is about as cool as an XK gets.
This is the XKR with a supercharged 5-liter V8 in the front.
It delivers 510 hp and 625 Nm.
We've already tried this engine in a XFR and in a Range Rover...
...and it's been perfect every time.
It does use fuel and it's quite expensive to buy...
...but besides that it's great.
It sounds good, it's strong at every rpm, it's very powerful...
What else could you wish for?
I also think it looks very cool.
The white looks good on it.
Glossy black wheels although you wouldn't say that right now...
...this car gets dirty in no time.
For this car you walk to the window just to look at it.
At home I regularly peeked outside to check it out and to admire it.
Full marks for its looks.
The black interior isn't very exciting...
...but with those white stitches it is very beautiful.
The buttons that control the sat nav and the heater...
...aren't than intuitive.
You have to use the touchscreen a lot.
But while it's great on an iPhone, it isn't that great in a car...
...because you have to look at what you're doing constantly.
You'll get used to it eventually. I have less problems with it now than I had earlier.
But it could be better.
You'd expect great performance from that 510 hp, and it delivers.
0-62 takes 4.8 seconds. Its top speed is usually limited to 155 mph...
...but Jaguar has been nice enough to equip this one with the Speed Pack...
...and that raises the top speed to 174 mph.
That's enough for our highways.
Now the X-Type is gone, all Jaguars are powered from the right wheels again...
...namely from the rear wheels.
The weather isn't great...
...it's a bit wet and cold.
And you do notice that the car is struggling to get all the power to the road.
You either have traction or you don't, it's a bit digital.
When you lose it, the V8 keeps going.
And when you lift off, it grips again and goes on.
That makes it hard to do nice drifts under these circumstances.
It could be better, but we'll just keep on practicing.
All this doesn't come cheap of course.
The one we're driving costs over 173 grand.
That's a lot of money. A regular XKR costs just under 150 grand.
There's also a normal XK with a 5-liter V8 so that'll also be quite quick.
And that one costs about 124 grand.
Do you want a convertible? That's possible.
That'll cost you 10 grand extra.
Driving around in it, I come to the conclusion that this car is just right.
There's this nice button for the automatic transmission...
...Jaguar Drive Select or whatever it's called.
The controls for the seats are also good and look nice.
This car seems to be right in any way.
Except for that touchscreen satnav maybe.
But it does have a heated steering wheel.
I didn't think I'd ever say this, but it's really very nice.
Nice warm hands, look, they're warm.
