In this video, we will demonstrate how to create a group in Mac Mail.
To begin, let’s open “Address Book” by clicking on the Address Book icon on your dock
or clicking on the spotlight feature located at the top right hand corner of the screen.
In the search field type in “address book” and click on the application name to launch it.
Once “Address Book” is open go ahead create a new group. To do this click File and select “New Group.”
In the text box enter your group name.
For this example, lets go ahead and enter “Test Group” and then press enter.
Now, before we continue please note that you can move any existing contact into your new group.
To do this simply click on the contact name and drag it into your new group.
You can repeat this process as many times as you wish.
Once you are done you can go ahead double click on the group name to proceed
This will bring you to the contacts page.
To add a contact go ahead and click the plus “ +“ button located at the bottom right hand side of the window.
This will enable you to modify the contact information.
So, let’s create a contact for the Help Desk
In the “First” text box we will type in “St. Edwards” and in the “Last” we will type “Help Desk.”
The remaining fields will be filled as needed
but adding an email is essential when it comes to Mac Mail integration.
So, let us fill in the email textbox with helpline@stedwards.edu and select done.
You can now close the address book application and proceed to using iCal again.
Return to Mac Mail and create a new message.
In the “To:” box enter the name of the group you created in Address Book.
For this example, let’s type in “IT Help Desk” and press enter.
You will notice that the members of your group will automatically appear in the text box.
This indicates that you have successfully created a group.
If you have any other questions contact the computer helpdesk at
