I think my greatest moment at UNC Charlotte was passing the comprehensive
exams we had comprehensives that lasted a day as well as a thesis
back
when it was still an urban administration program
and the
one of the three parts was quantitative analysis
and through whatever
happenstance they hadn't taught that in the year that I was there as as a full-time
student
and I was handed a book, told to memorize the book
and take the exams and so I guess I memorized the book any question
that was relevant to quantitative methods I wrote the book so I don't know if
the answers actually answered the questions but it seemed to work
Tim Mead played a significant role in how my career turned out Tim was the
head of the MUA program the Urban Administration Program
and so Doctor Mead got me in the right place and pointed me in the
right direction and Tim also connected me with Tim Mayes at the City of Charlotte
who's the deputy HR director and that was my first connection to the City of
Charlotte and so my role
particularly the last year or so has been focused on entrepreneurship
which UNCC is doing such a great job with and also increasing the research
dollars that come from the federal government without the MPA program
things would've turned out differently so if I can help
those folks that are in the program now
turn out with a career that they're happy with and is productive
I think that's incumbent on me
the program is doing extremely well there are three
MPA graduates within fifty feet of my office and they are all three
extraordinarily talented
young people and they are going to do really great things in the future
and so the program is really making an impact on Charlotte-Mecklenburg
