Hello. I’m Scott Pruitt. Your Attorney General.
As many of you know, it’s College Football Time here in Oklahoma, which means fun with
family and friends for many of us here in the state.
The 2011 season starts amid a national debate about sports agents and our responsibility
to protect our student-athletes.
As Attorney General, I have taken steps to protect the integrity of our university systems
and our athletic traditions as a state.
The actions of just a few sports agents can ruin athletes’ careers & cost universities
millions of dollars, potentially harming entire athletic programs here in our state.
So, today, I am launching an enforcement effort to find - investigate - and prosecute - sports
agents and their runners who seek to harm our students and our universities.
To lead this effort, I have appointed a new prosecution team led by an assistant attorney
general Stefanie Lawson. She will work with Oklahoma colleges and universities to protect
student-athletes and charge those who violate the law.
This enforcement initiative would not have been possible without the help of Oklahoma
University, Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma Legislature which strengthened
the state’s laws to make sure that we can go after bad guys and hold them accountable.
We will keep you updated on our progress and I hope you enjoy this college football season.
