Hi I'm Dorothea Hendriks your communication skills
specialist in presentation skills and the art of speaking
and today we're looking at tip number two
let your audience know how you want them to respond
as presenters we often toss out questions to our audience
and while questions are a great tool for building connection
and getting people to interact they work best
when you're audience has clear instructions on what you as the presenter
expect them to do without clear instruction
the audience sitting in front of you won't know what to do and presentation
flow will be interrupted
what do you want people in the audience to do when you ask them a question
you want them to shout it out all at once you want them to jump up stand up on
their seats
or do you want them actually to just raise their hand so you can ask them
one person at a time perhaps you've asked them
a hypothetical a what if question were you asking them to sit back and use their
imagination
let them know that they'll have 10 seconds fifteen seconds 22nd
to do the imagining and then you're going to continue and move on with your
presentation
let your audience know when you ask them a question
how you want them to respond and they'll follow through
and do it every time stay tuned for my next tip
