Jumping on and scampering across your couch, barking uncontrollably indoors or
out,
chewing on shoes, wood work,
pillows and other items around your home.
Helping you control these kinds of undesirable and nuisance behaviors in
your dog
can be a challenge.
Havahart® is here to help!
The Havahart® Ultrasonic Basic Trainer is a proven training tool
that's effective at controlling and modifying your pet's misbehavior. And,
it's easy to use.
As its name implies,
the Ultrasonic Basic Trainer
works by emitting a loud, sharp
ultrasonic tone that
while inaudible to you, is heard by and distracts your dog.
It's this distraction that effectively stops unwanted behaviors and actions.
The trainer is effective with any dog six months and older
of any size and breed,
and can be tuned to match the hearing sensitivity of your pet.
Keep in mind, however, that although about two thirds of dogs will respond to ultra
sound training,
some dogs are not distracted by ultrasound frequency and will require
more advanced training techniques.
If your dog is unresponsive to ultrasound,

The Ultrasonic Basic Trainer can be operated manually or automatically.
Three simple buttons: the Power/Mode button,
the Frequency Selector button
and the Manual Correction button
control all trainer functions.
To turn the trainer on
and activate Manual mode, push the Power button one time.
The Power light will flash once every five seconds.
To put the trainer into Auto mode,
push the Power button a second time.
The Auto light will now flash once every five seconds
and the Power light will continue to flash.
To turn the trainer off,
press the Power button a third time.
Both the lights will stop flashing.
As mentioned earlier,
the Havahart® Ultrasonic Basic Trainer can be customized or tuned to
the hearing sensitivity of your dog.
To tune your trainer,
put it into Auto moved by pressing the Power button twice until both the Power
light
and the Auto light blink every five seconds.
It's best to tune the trainer to your dog when it is relaxed.
With your dog next to you, depress the Frequency Selector button and hold it
for one or two seconds.
The trainer will begin to cycle through
five correction sounds,
each of which is emitted at a
high decibel level and frequency.
You will see the three sweep lights move right
to left on the display as each sound is emitted.
Each of the five training sounds will be emitted three times before the trainer
cycles to the next sound.
There is a five-second delay between each sound test. When your dog reacts to
the trainer by showing a change in behavior,
for example if it perks up its ears,
lifts its head,
stands up or
reacts with any combination of these behaviors,
immediately depress the Frequency Selector button again.
The trainer now automatically selects the sound level that caused your dog's
reaction.
It is this sound
that will be emitted anytime the trainer is triggered.
If your dog does not react to any of the five sounds,,,,,
or if you do not halt the cycle by selecting a sound,
the trainer will automatically select the
highest frequency sound as the default setting.
We recommend that you repeat the tuning process every few weeks to
identify the most effective sound frequency to train and control your dog.
Keep the Havahart® Ultrasonic Basic Trainer close at hand
whenever you think your dog may misbehave.
Wait for your dog to demonstrate an unwanted behavior,
and then immediately aim the trainer at it
and depress the Manual Correction button.
It is important that the correction be administered at the same time your dog
is misbehaving.
The Manual button activates a correction tone regardless of whether the trainer
is in Manual or Auto mode.
Use verbal commands
such as "No,"
or "Stop," to supplement the trainer's ultrasonic distraction.
Only excessive barking can be corrected
when using the trainer in Auto mode.
To activate Auto mode, press the Power button until both Power light
and the Auto light
blink every five seconds.
While in Auto mode, the the trainer works to detect your dog's bark.
It is programmed to recognize the full range of barks produced by all size
and breeds of dogs.
When a bark is detected,
the trainer emits the sharp ultrasonic sound that you have already pretuned to
your dog.
If while in Auto mode, the trainer is triggered six times
within a one-minute period,
it goes into a timeout mode for five minutes
and corrections will not be sent out.
The Manual button,
however, will activate a correction at any time it is pressed.
If no barking is detected over a five-minute period,
the Ultrasonic Basic Trainer goes into a battery-saving sleep mode
and remains in this mode until either a bark is detected
or the power button is activated to reset the cycle.
When in sleep mode the trainer continues to listen for barking
and will activate on hearing the first bark.
After the wake-up bark reactivates the trainer, it waits until it hears the
second bark to emit the selected distracting training tone.
It remains in active Auto mode with the Auto light blinking once every five
seconds
and emits a correction tone on each bark
until it either times out after six barks within one minute
or falls back into sleep mode
when barking stops.
As with any pet training program,
consistency is the key to success.
Here are a few tips to increase the effectiveness of the training process using the
Havahart® Ultrasonic Basic Trainer.
Anticipating undesirable behavior
and consistently using the trainer to distract your dog will deliver the best
results.
Also, be sure to retune the trainer to your dog's hearing sensitivity every
couple of weeks.
And finally, remember that your training sessions should be enjoyable,
filled with praise and end with a spirited play session.
Thank you for making the Havahart® brand part of your pet's training.
