Whats up folks
Welcome to "momento criatura"
My name is Glauco Longhi, I`m a sculptor and creature designer, and I run a studio here in Sao Paulo/Brazil.
Well, I`m planning the creature sculpting video, but in the meanwhile,
I decided to make some videos.
This first one is about clay and sculpting materials that I use on my work.
Hope you like it.
I`d encourage you to share the video, subscribe the channel and see you later ;)
Well, let`s talk about the materials today.
This is water clay, easily to find, very cheap.
The water evaporates and dries, so the clay gets hard. Working with water clay is fast
you can easily build up a creature like this in a few hours
and the while the clay gets hard/dry, you start detailing and finishing.
Here are a few small water clay sculptures
This holds up details very nicely
I let this dry completely
brushed some shellac and painted it.
Another type of clays are oil clays. They have oil instead of water
So it never dries
There`s a lot of brands
I like to use it for prosthetic sculpting
Makeup fx prosthetic appliances
It`s a precise medium. I can control the thickness
the edges
holds up detail very well.
I use this clay to work on smaller pieces as well.
This maquette I did
Based on a concept done by Carlos Huante
I painted the clay piece.
it`s not indestructible but works for a conceptual piece.
this is a very soft oil based clay called plastiline.
Here in Brazil people call plastiline = soft oil based clay
it`s very soft, hard to finish but I`ve done many sculpture on it
People like it or not.
Another kind of clay is polymer clay.
I like to use super sculpey. There`s two types. Firm/grey and soft/pink
they are like bars. Mine is old, so I`d like to mix it before using.
I did these two pieces with this medium.
This old batman I did with sculpey.
After it`s nicely blocked and sculpted, you can put in an oven and bake it till it gets hard.
Or you can use a thermal blower.
You can sand it and paint it.
And last but not least, the waxes.
You have two type of waxes.
This one you can warm and it looks like clay. So you can build up and then sculpt
After a few seconds it`s hard as rock
So we use Wax pen to work on these pieces.
Another kind of wax would be these blocks
You can melt it down and pour inside a silicone mould
People like to sculpt a sketch with a softer clay, mould it with silicone and then pour this wax to finish it
Well, I guess I could help you folks in someway.
If you have doubts, make sure to write here.
Hope you like it.
See you soon folks.
