I am Professor Thomas Connolly, University of the West of Scotland and I am just talking
about a new EU project we have got called Web2.0 European Resource Centre.
It’s a two year project which started on the first of January 2010 and it’s trying
to engage teachers with the use of emerging web 2.0 technologies.
Sometimes these technologies can be a barrier and what this project is about trying to demystify
the barriers around web 2.0. We are hoping to build a platform that makes
use of current web 2.0 technologies as simple as possible.
And what we also want to do is to try to develop a methodology that actually shows the teachers
how these tools can actually be used within their classroom.
And trying to make that as easy as possible. We will then provide a training course to
actually show the teachers how to use both tools and how to use the methodology.
And then we are trying to support them as they actually use that methodology and tools
within their own classes. A lot of web 2.0 tools are actually used by
students nowadays, they are very familiar with the tools. It is part of their leisure
activities. And there are educational reasons why web
2.0 tools have been actually beneficial within the classroom as well.
What we are trying to do is to get teachers to use these tools, to be using the same tools
as they may be using within their personal lives but certainly students are using within
their personal life to make the educational experience more realistic for the students.
