Hi - my name is Jermel McElveen with the Georgia Tech Benefits team, and I'm here to help you
understand the similarities and differences between the Open Access POS plan and the HSA
Open Access POS plan.
First, let's start out with the similarities. Both plans are administered by BCBS of Georgia.
Both networks use the same doctors and hospitals. Both give you the flexibility to choose in-network
and out-of-network providers.
Difference number 1: the Open Access POS has a higher premium with a lower deductible while
the HSA has a lower premium and high deductible.
Difference number 2: with the Open Access POS, you pay for services whether you use
them or not. With the HSA, you only pay for services you use.
Difference number 3: with the Open Access POS, you have the option of setting up an
FSA, where you set aside pre-tax dollars that can contribute to your healthcare expenses;
but it has a use it or lose it clause where the funds do not roll over from year to year.
With the HSA, you have the option of opening a health savings account where pre-tax dollars
can be used to contribute to your healthcare expenses. The funds roll over from year to
year, and they are matched by the USG.
The website on the screen has more information, tools, and resources. If you have questions,
please visit the benefits fair or the on campus information sessions. Thank you for watching.
