Hi. Bob McAllister with your healthy home tip. This hot water heater is using about
sixteen percent of the energy in this house. You can save on that. Your hot water has a
thermostat on it. Turn it if it's on hot, turn it down from hot to warm. If you're going
away, turn it down further, down to vacation. No reason to heat the hot water while you're
not using it. Today you can also get a tankless water heater.
These devices only heat the hot water when it's going through the pipes and you're using
it. Baths are great for soaking, but they take a lot of energy and a lot of water. Now
we've turned our temperature down so it's comfortable. Alright, our shower is going
to use less water and less energy. If you have an older shower head you'll want to replace
it with a new, low-flow head. And, that's your healthy home tip from Bob
