So this is the final step of decorating the foot, but I see here that I have a texture
that I don't really want so I'm going to use my metal rib and just kind of smooth that
out. Make sure you don't press too hard otherwise it'll go through the entire piece. So one
of the things that I do is add a shell decoration to my work. Just to exemplify the fact that
I get a lot of inspiration from the ocean. That's why I have Saltwater Ceramics. So I
use shells a lot and I've used a shell on this decoration on the edge up here, and to
even it out I'm going to use it on my foot. I'm going to use it on the side that, when
it's sitting on its foot you'll be able to see the textures on both sides. So I'm just
going to line it up real loose, put some pressure on it, and then do it as a pattern throughout
the entire piece. I usually like to do even, I'm sorry, odd amounts. Just, I think it looks
more interesting as far as design goes. Then you sign your piece. I usually use a pen.
A smooth pen, a Charlie Parker pen actually. Sign it. C. L. Irmis. Let it dry and the next
step would be to fire it. So what you see is what you get at this point. It usually
shrinks about ten percent.
