SOUTHERN NEW
ENGLAND.
THIS NOONTIME, WE'RE
LEARNING MUCH MORE
ABOUT THE DAMAGE LEFT
BEHIND IN ANOTHER
COASTAL COMMUNITY.
THIS IS SOME VIDEO OF
THE HEAVY SURF IN
WESTERLY LAST NIGHT, AS
WE FELT THE BRUNT OF
SANDY'S WRATH.
NOW WE'VE LEARNED
MUCH OF THE
MISQUAMICUT SECTION OF
TOWN -- FROM
MAPLEWOOD AVENUE TO
THE WEEKAPAUG BRIDGE
-- WHICH WAS EVACUATED
BEFORE THE STORM --
WILL REMAINED CLOSED
TO THE PUBLIC AT LEAST
THROUGH TOMORROW --
BECAUSE OF THE SEVERE
DAMAGE ALONG ATLANTIC
AVENUE.
"We have gas leaks, we have oil
tanks that have been overturned,
we
have propane tanks that have
been
overturned, we have power
outages,
we have downed trees. A lot of
hazards in that area.
"There is one house as I said
that
actually floated off of its
piers, off of
its pilings, that was on
Atlantic
Avenue that floated into Benson
Street. It's now blocking Benson
Street down to the beach."

THE TOWN MANAGER
SAYS THE WATCH HILL
AREA APPEARS TO HAVE
BEEN SPARED OF SERIOUS
DAMAGE -- AND IS
EXPECTED TO REOPEN TO
THE PUBLIC LATER TODAY.
