OUR GOAL IS TO HELP STUDENTS BE MORE PREPARED FOR CLASS.
AND SO THE WAY WE'RE DOING THAT IS WE GOT THOSE PENS, RIGHT?

- AND WE'RE CAPTURING WHAT'S GOING ON IN CLASS--
- OKAY.
- --AND THEN WE'RE TAKING WHAT'S GOING ON IN CLASS
AND PUTTING IT UP ON THE COMPUTER
SO STUDENTS CAN ACCESS OUTSIDE OF CLASS WHENEVER THEY NEED IT.
THAT'S SORT OF THE ESSENCE.
AND ALL THE STAFF IS RUN BY STUDENTS.
SO NOT ONLY ARE WE HELPING STUDENTS IN CLASS,
WE'RE HELPING TRAIN STUDENTS TO BE THE FACILITATORS
OF THE PROJECT OUTSIDE OF CLASS.
- SO CAN I GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE?
- GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE.
- WELL, YOU KNOW MY GRANDSON. HE'S A NOTE-TAKER, RIGHT.
- YEAH.
- AND HE STARTED LAST SEMESTER.
HE WAS REALLY, REALLY NERVOUS ABOUT MATH AND COLLEGE.
THIS IS HIS FIRST SEMESTER IN COLLEGE.
- MM-HMM.
- AND WHEN HE STARTED TAKING THE NOTES
AND LEARN THE LITTLE PROCESS, LEARN THE PROCESS
OF HOW TO TAKE THE NOTES,
AND HE TOOK THEM AHEAD OF TIME WITH HIS INSTRUCTOR--
- MM-HMM.
- --HE ACTUALLY STARTED BUILDING HIS CONFIDENCE,
AND HE ENJOYED LEARNING MATH-- AND I WAS REALLY SURPRISED
AND SHOCKED--IN ADDITION TO.
- AND HE WAS THE ONE YOU WERE CONCERNED ABOUT
WHETHER HE WOULD DO WELL IN HIS MATH CLASS, CORRECT?
- YES, AND HE ALSO, YOU KNOW, BEGAN TO BECOME FRIENDS
WITH HIS INSTRUCTOR.
SO HE WAS SHOCKED ABOUT THAT AS WELL.
- AND THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO CREATE.
WHEN THE MENTOR OR THE NOTE-TAKER COLLABORATES
WITH THE INSTRUCTOR AND THEY BECOME A TEAM,
AND THEY WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE THESE NOTES
THAT BENEFIT THE WHOLE CLASS.
- YES.
- 'CAUSE THEY'RE WORKING AS TEAM, SO WHAT THEY CREATE
IS REALLY GOOD
BECAUSE ALL OF A SUDDEN NOW, THE TEACHER IS NOT ALL ALONE.
SHE OR HE HAS THESE OTHER STUDENTS WHO PLAY UP WITH

AND THEN THE STUDENT NOTE-TAKER TAKES IT
AND DOES ALL THE WORK WITH UPLOADING IT,
WHICH IS WHAT YOUR GRANDSON WAS DOING.
- YES.
AND HE FINISHED IT REALLY-- HE DID REALLY WELL
IN HIS FIRST SEMESTER IN COLLEGE.
SO I'M VERY PROUD OF HIM.
