Today, June 7, acclaimed French artist Paul Gauguin was born in Paris in 1848. A prominent
Post-Impressionist-painter, he is known for his love of vivid colors and his work in the
Synthetist style. This is a genre which uses simplified forms and relies more on the memory
of the artist.
Mr. Gaugin spent the latter part of his life in Tahiti and Marquesas Islands of French
Polynesia, where his art was influenced by the harmonious culture of the area. An example
of that is "Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?" which is considered
one of his masterpieces. His other famous paintings include "The Yellow Christ" and
"La Belle Angèle."
May the amazingly vibrant artwork of Mr. Paul Gauguin continue to inspire many for years
to come
