This video will show you how to install your LaserJet printer on a wireless network in
Windows using HP's Smart Install feature. Before you begin, you'll need to check a few
things to make sure the printer is ready to be installed on your network.
First, make sure that your router is already set up and functioning correctly.
Also, make sure that your computer is connected to the same router that you are going to connect
the printer to. Then, make sure have access to your SSID,
or your network name, and your WEP key or WPA passphrase. This is the password you use
with your SSID to log into your network. This information is case-sensitive, so you should
make sure that if a letter is capitalized in your SSID or password, that it is capitalized
when you write it down. If you don't know the SSID, key, or passphrase, contact the
person who set up the network or the manufacturer's documentation. Without this information, your
printer will not connect to the network. Now we can start the installation for your
printer. Make sure the printer is turned on. If it
is off, press the Power button to turn it on.
Connect the USB cable into the printer. Then connect the other end of the USB cable
into the computer. On your computer, an autoplay window will
open. Click HP Smart Install to open the installation files.
Windows 7 asks you to confirm if you want to install the file. Click Yes to start the
installation. A license agreement appears. Read through
the agreement, select the “I accept the software End User License Agreement” option,
and then click Install. The installation files will transfer from
the printer to the computer. When the Printer Connections screen opens,
choose the “Configure to print over the Wireless Network” option, and then click
Next. From the Wireless Discovery Method screen,
choose the Advanced option, and then Click Next.
The installation will look for all available wireless networks within range of your printer.
A list of all the detected networks will display on the “Networks Discovered” screen. Click
on the network name that matches the SSID that you wrote down earlier. Once you have
selected the correct SSID, click Next. Once the Wireless Credentials screen opens
click the Security Mode dropdown menu and choose the security type. You also wrote this
down earlier. For the purposes of this video, we are using the WEP encryption.
Next type in your WEP key or WPA pass-phrase. Then click Next.
The installation will then gather and verify your network name and password. It will then
connect to the router using the information you have provided.
While this is happening, the wireless light on your printer will blink as the printer
attempts to search for and connect to the router. Once a connection has been made, the
wireless light on your printer will turn solid blue.
Once all connections have been established and settings saved, the Network Connection
Successful screen will open. At this point you can disconnect the USB cable
from the computer and the printer.
Then click the Next button. Next, the Congratulations screen will appear.
Uncheck the Register your software check box. For the purposes of this video, we are going
to skip the registration for now. Leave the Print Test page box checked.
Click the Next button to print the Test page. The test page prints, which confirms that
your wireless setup is complete.
