My name is Deputy Elizabeth Fildes and I am a deputy here at the Erie County Sheriff's
Office and I've been working here now for about 30 years.

We play a major role here in Erie County informing the public of new human trafficking laws and
how to strengthen them. We have to work on these things with a lot of compassion -- especially
for women.
I have a bachelor's degree in elementary bilingual education (a dual certification) and I also
have a master's in international business. Both from D'Youville College.

International business is extremely important in my career, because it taught me a lot about
culture and it taught me a lot about people and religions and what things are appropriate
to say and what things are not appropriate to say. Cultural awareness is extremely important
in what I do. I have traveled to so many different countries to teach about human trafficking
through the U.S. State Department.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of being at D'Youville College in the early afternoon.
I was a speaker for Women's History Month. And I had the pleasure of talking to Dr. Sen
for a little while, who was my instructor in my marketing class. And I approached him
and I said "everything that you taught me is true." And he laughed and he said "what
are you talking about?" And I said to him "well, all of the strategies that you taught
us about why is something there has a purpose and a reason."
When I look at any case, I look at it through the eyes of what I learned in school.
