BT Cloud is a safe and secure auto backup service which keeps a copy of everything important
on your devices, so the most recent versions of your files and photos are always protected.
Plus, you can access your favourite files and photos wherever you are.
In this video we will talk you through how to successfully delete and trash any files,
folders, and devices in BT Cloud that you no longer want stored.
For help with putting content into your BT Cloud, see the 'BT Cloud: Installing and
setting automatic backup on PC and Mac' Video for assistance.
It is important to note that deleting content simply moves it to trash ready for removal.
It is only when you clear items from trash that they are completely removed. You need
to empty the trash to free up storage capacity in BT Cloud. Deleting a backup file from BT
Cloud will not affect the original file on your device. However, deleting content that
is part of your automatic backup will stop it from being backed up in the future.
Files that have been manually uploaded to BT Cloud are found in the upload folders under
each device or in the web uploads folder. These are not part of automatic backup therefore
you might not have a copy saved locally on any of your devices. If you want to keep a
copy of an uploaded file locally, you can download it before deleting from the Cloud.
To delete files and folders on a PC or Mac, open your BT Cloud Desktop Client and log-in
if you are not already. Your log in details are your BT.com username and password
Navigate to the file or folder you wish to delete and select the checkbox in the top
right hand corner
of the thumbnail. You can select multiple items. Once you have selected your items,
click 'Delete' in the top bar of BT Cloud and accept the warning message. The items
will be moved to Trash.
To free up storage space and ensure your trash is permanently deleted, select 'Trash'
in the bottom right hand corner on a PC, Mac, or web. From a PC or Mac this will take you
to your trash in the web. Once in your Trash, highlight the files you wish to delete and
select 'Delete the selected files'.
When prompted, select 'Continue' to accept the warning message.
To delete all files in your trash, select 'Empty Trash' and accept the warning message.
This will permanently delete the files and they will not be retrievable.
If you want to recover an item from trash not yet permanently deleted, select 'Trash'
in the bottom right hand corner on a PC, Mac, or web. From a PC or Mac this will take you
to your trash in the web. Once in trash, highlight the items you wish to retrieve and select
'Retrieve'. They will return to their original location.
