but it's something we think is really necessary
to reflect upon.
These media tend to distribute small stars
of leftist approval
in order to bestow with legitimacy movements
and political processes.
Those stars are handed out according to criteria
such as democratic credentials,
the treatment of minorities,
the ecological footprint,
the economic policies, whatever.
It can be according to 10.000 different criteria.
In this alternative arena for debate,
are complemented
- and we saw this in the case of Libya,
I'm sorry to say that -
the Western corporate media's Psy-War is complemented.
In this alternative arena,
are also reinforced the differences
and the contradictions are made antagonistic,
which has the effect
of debilitating the resistances
against imperialism.
Just like corporate media,
very little attention is paid to the true situation
and the debates among the subjects and movements
that construct and shape the processes of change
in our countries.
The final result is those structures I've mentioned
It ends up being quite functional to the
goals of NATO's planners and it's allies.
They include to isolate and divide the targets of aggression,
creating confusion among the forces against an effective resistance,
and finally, to create a paralysis in face of the aggression.
With this criticism, we in no way propose an alternative,
"truly revolutionary" solution.
We simply carry on doing what we've always done,
through other networks.
We don't say "close down Rebelión, LMD or DemocracyNow!"
and we don't say that they are just like CNN,
What we say is that there is a structure there,
that we should reflect upon...
Let's be frank:
Historically, the "neither ... nor" syndrome,
"Neither Bush nor Saddam", "neither Milosevic nor Clinton",
"Neither Gaddafi nor NATO", etc, etc...
..."neither Chinchilla nor Ortega"...
Before, that syndrome was known as
"the two daemon's syndrome"...
That syndrome has never yielded positive, results
it has always yielded catastrophic results
in the struggle against imperialism.
With respect to Latin America,
it is only a matter of time before the Psy-War campaigns
against our continent
intensify at unprecedented levels,
levels we have not seen in spite of all we've been through.
I think we had a little sample of that
in the case of Ecuador's asylum to Julian Assange.
This... intensification of the propaganda campaigns
will occur as the most radical democracies
in Latin America, specially in the ALBA countries,
become more active in the creation of a new
multi-polar World Order.
Those campaigns of demonization
are directed against the concrete achievements
of the models based on socialism
which dramatically outperform capitalism's failed model
but also against anyone who dares to deviate one inch..
It's even possible that we see similar demonization campaigns
against other Latin American presidents
who might not be as progressive
but who do not behave as expected by their masters
I'd like to finish these words
with a couple of reflections.
Once Marx said that
"a people cannot be free
as long as it oppresses another people".
The peoples in the imperialist countries now
start to revolt against an unsustainable system,
that deprives them from their lives and their future.
For those peoples, anti-imperialist struggle
cannot be a luxury, it is a dire need!
It's indispensable that socialists in those countries
explain to their peoples
that it's not enough to fight to share the cake,
the cake's ingredients must be changed
because our peoples
are no longer willing to contribute with their blood
to make the cake's mixture.
Your struggle to put an end to imperialism
- which today necessarily means to put an end to NATO
and to Israel's nefarious influence within it,
that struggle is not one in solidarity with us,
it is, above all, in solidarity with yourselves!
The Swedish version of the song "We shall not be moved"
says something like "we are a tree with deep, deep roots".
It's time to take seriously that premonitory idea
from the origins of the Swedish working movement.
Yes, socialism is a tree with very, very deep roots.
Those roots are much deeper
than the utopian socialism Lenin talked about
in his "Three Sources and Three Component Parts of Marxism"
Today, the Wretched of the Earth
rise up in Latin America and appropriate socialism,
they discover their roots and by doing so,
they also help discover the roots of the
universal socialist movement.
The same will happen in Africa,
Asia, all over the world.
The call I want to make to you
is to leave behind the panopticon,
the privileged point of view
from which the Other is defined.
To leave behind the tip of the "evolutionary pyramid"
from which the others are conveniently explained
in order to bomb, and invade them,
or to let remain unknown the plans of those
who want to bomb and invade us.
It's a call to be critical with imperialism
but also to take seriously what's being done
outside the imperialistic countries.
Without a discussion on these matters
There's not much use
in talking about the power of the media in today's world.
