I'm Jess, I'm a first year at Curtin doing a double major in Performance Studies and
Screen Arts in the Production stream. I chose Curtin because having a look through at the
end of Year 12 all the massive uni books that I had on my desk, I found that Curtin had
the best course for me and it seemed to really work with contemporary performance which was
a great help and being at Curtin I found that it has really opened my eyes to different
aspects of performance which has been a great thing and at the same time I have managed
to bring some of my own ideas and style into my course and the tutors have all been really
receptive of it.
They have respected my ideas and they have shown me new ways to kind of muck around with
those as well and it's been great to meet other actors as well doing the same course
because again we have that sort of bouncing back and forth between one another which has
been really good. It's one of the best aspects about Curtin.
To be honest, I was really shocked when looking through the course outlines because I always
thought that Curtin, Murdoch, places like that were always really technology based but
then looking through the course outline it was a really pleasant surprise to see that
they were tailored to performance students and I have met a lot of people who have said
"Yeah, I thought the exact same thing but coming to Curtin was a great surprise to know
that there is such a great performance atmosphere here."
I'm doing a Dip. Ed at the end of my degree so hopefully I will go into the teaching and
things like that in Drama as my major and minoring in English so I am really hoping
that it will take me to not only being able to be an excellent teacher but having a better
understanding of performance in general.
