Hello and welcome to My Weekly Geekery, the show in which I talk about what's been going on in my
geeky world over the past seven days.
Top story today is that this morning the nominations were announced for the 2014
BAFTA awards. Gravity has the most nominations with 11, closely followed by
Twelve Years a Slave
and American Hustle with 10. These three were all nominated for the Best Film
award
with Captain Phillips and Philomena. Acting nods have gone to Chiwetel
Ejiofor,
Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench,
Bradley Cooper, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, and Jennifer Lawrence.
Among others. I'll put a link to the full nominations below.
The ceremony will be held on Sunday February the 16th at the Royal Opera
House, will be hosted by Stephen Fry,
and will be broadcast by the BBC. In Doctor Who news, filming has begun on series
eight.
The first picture has been released of Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman on set,
Peter Capaldi is still wearing the Matt Smith Doctor costume,
so we don't yet know how his Doctor will be dressed. Vastra, Jenny and Strax have all
been filming on location.
It has been confirmed that Phil Ford, co-creator of Wizards vs Aliens, has penned
episode 2
of the new series. The first episode has been filmed by Steven Moffat. It has been revealed that
Stan Lee will have a
'big role' in an upcoming episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The episode is expected to air on February 4th in the US.
And finally two episodes of Sherlock Series 3 have now aired with one episode to go.
The first two episodes have featured Sherlock returning from the dead
and John's wedding, and I have loved them both. Episode 3, His Last Vow, airs at
8:30 p.m. on BBC1 on Sunday the
12th January in the UK. So in conclusion,
award season is upon us, Sherlock is back but will be ending soon and who knows when it will
return, and Doctor Who will return but not for another 8 months or so. This has been My Weekly Geekery.
