With interest rates at near all-time lows, investors are facing the
most difficult time we've seen to make money in this generation. Brett
Eversole says he has a solution to this big problem in today's Media
Minute, Tuesday, October 22nd.
So one of the biggest problems facing investors today is income.
Bond yields are near record lows, and normal dividend-paying stocks like
utilities don't provide much yield either. However, if you're willing to
look outside of the U.S. there's a simple solution to the problem. You
see, due to our tax code, the U.S. actually disincentivizes paying
dividends. However, if you look to foreign markets, you can find dividend
payers paying much higher yields.
Today you can buy a basket of cheap international stocks through the
Ishares International Select Dividend Fund with the ticker IDB. Now this
fund currently pays a four point eight interest on dividends. It holds a
hundred of the best global dividend payers and it only holds companies who
have consistently paid big dividends.
Now based on history this has been a winning strategy. Since 1998, the
index IDB tracks more than tripled the return on U.S. stocks and more than
doubled the return on bonds. So if you're looking for income and safe long-
term gains, I think IDB is definitely worth checking out today.
