Hi, it's Amy, your Western Direct interactive host.
We're here at the Galt Museum in Lethbridge, Alberta.
We're here with Wendy, the curator of the museum. And we're standing inside the exhibit
about Southwestern Alberta, and what are we looking at? What do we have here?
-What we have is the various icons that help us tell a story.
So, the big cowboy boot -- of course -- relates to Ranching.
Which was one of the early industries in the area.
A little further behind that is the coal mine, and of course Lethbridge is one of the
only prairie cities that started because of industry instead of agriculture.
-Oh wow! -And we have a huge model of the CPR bridge,
which is bright red. The actual one out on the Coulee is black.
So, they all help us tell the human history of Southwestern Alberta.
It's a fascinating history, with wonderful people that were involved right from the very beginning.
-It really is, and there's a little aboriginal history as well. Can you tell me a little bit about that structure there?
-This area that we are in, is Blackfoot territory.
We chose to focus on the Kainai, who are our neighbors right to west of Lethbridge.
They helped develop a wonderful circular exhibit that is a great story center
as well as telling the story of the Kainai people.
-Wonderful! Come on down, you guys, to Galt Museum and learn a little bit more about the story.
