Today, you find women doing heavy work. Now, why is that? Well, some of your major employers,
some of your warehouses, some of your multi-goods localities; your Wal-marts, your K-marts,
places like that, they can hire women for less wages than men. And, they do and they
put them to work at the same heavy-lifting job requirements, and guess what happens?
They're just not capable of doing it. They try their best. Next thing you know, they're
hurt. UPS is the same way. They've recently changed their work rules so you have to carry
more packages and deliver more per hour. Fed Ex is the same thing. It goes on, and on,
and on, and on. And, a lot of times, women are taking these jobs because there's a need
for both members of the household to work, and what's out there is these kind of jobs
and they pay the price for it. So, we find we've been representing more and more women.
And, they're just as anxious to get back to work. Especially, if they're in the helping
professions. They have families to feed, and yet the system is kind of stacked against
them because the same expectations that the system would have a male worker, they don't
really have for the female worker. I think a lot of people, when they think of Workers'
Compensation, they think of someone who's a laborer, who does a physical job. And, that's
not always the case. Well, nursing is a physical job but I think a lot of people don't think
of those types of instances. But, we've even had a case where someone worked in the office
and they fell off a chair. The chair broke, they fell, and they had a back injury. So,
it's not always the labor type jobs that can turn into a Workers' Comp. case. Now, what
does this mean at Shor & Levin? Well, there's challenges that the female in the household
has to go through that the male does not. And, yes, it has nothing to do with processing
their Workers' Compensation claim, but it is part of how we view our role in helping
our clients. We view our clients as members of the family, as friends. This is one thing,
I think, that has differentiated us from other law firms. As you take a tour of our firm,
later on in these films, you'll see that's it's a family-oriented place. In my life,
my family comes first, and then my work family, my clients and my employees, we view them
all the same way. I'm looking that whatever I can do to serve them as opposed to looking
at what I'm going to receive as a result of it. It's much more rewarding to see the results
of an attitude of service vs. an attitude of taking. In fact, I have here an ad that
appeared in the local Yellow Pages. Now, you focus in on it, you'll see that it's really
not about us as a law firm. It's about you as the client. And, it's very little, a little
blurb about us and how you contact us in the bottom of the ad. That's basically served
us so well over the years and any kind of relationships we've had with our clients,
that they understand, and our employees understand, is how may we help?
