This is the Kindle Fire HD. At last I hear you cry! Its been available in the
US for around a year now.
It has finally reached UK stores. Before I get into it I want to say
that this is a solid, reliable,
great value for money
tablet.
It's running a stripped back version of the Android operating system.
This is to highlight Amazon's services, so you can get your books from
Kindle books, you can shop on the Amazon store, you can surf the net,
you get your music from Amazon music and you can also subscribe to
LoveFilm.
It's a very slick and responsive operating system. The Android operating
system has been around for awhile so that works very well indeed. It comes
with a front-facing camera so you can take part in video calls
and there is also
a micro HDMI out so your HD movies can be watched on your big screen
by means of an appropriate cable.
If I had a complaint about the unit it would only be that the bezel
is rather thick
so this band
going around the outside of the screen.
Most devices that are being released nowadays have
a screen that goes right to the very edges. But that is a very
small
criticism on what is a desirable
and affordable tablet.
Which I believe would make a very good Christmas gift.
