In the sixties Ford became the protagonist of World Cup manufacturers,
reserved for Grand Touring.
Carroll Shelby, in fact, the builder of AC Cobra
asked to use the Ford V-8 engines to equip their coaches,
with the aim of beating the Ferrari GTO, dominating the category.
In 1965, the Cobra Daytona won the Gran Touring World Cup,
bringing prestige to Ford.
But Henry Ford II (who actually tried to acquire Ferrari and failed),
also endorsed the project of the Cosworth engine in Formula 1,
which became successful and started the Ford GT series,
including the famous GT 40.
GT with Ford won four times the 24 Hours of Le Mans and
the World Sportscar Championship in 1966 and 1968.
