I: I welcome you all to 'Hello Sakhi' For doing anything successfully, our
self-confidence plays a very important role. We are going to learn today as to
how self-confidence can be a path to success.
Let's start the program with a positive thought.
Positive thought - Skills and self-confidence form an unconquerable
army.
I: Skills and self-confidence form an unconquerable army.
When we are doing any work, our skills-set for that work are very important
but even more important than those is our own belief that 'I will definitely be
successful at this work!' That is our self-confidence.
Sometimes, our self-confidence can even overcome any lack of skills that we may
have to be successful. Due to technology, these days, we have access to lots of
knowledge in many different fields There is no longer any age-limit for
learning anything new. What is required is to create a mind-set which will bring us
success in that field. We have today with us Sameer Surve who
will guide us about building Self-confidence and how self-confidence
can help us develop our personality and help us achieve our goals.
Welcome to the show. His introduction : In 1989, Sameer Surve
started his institution to help people in the areas of Personality Development and
Communication Skills. For over two decades, through programs like Pathik
Leadership Course, Pathik Prerna etc., he has guided thousands of people to find
out and act on their hidden talents. Many renowned companies have engaged
Sameer Surve to train their employees and people of various age-groups have
attended his training programs and honed their talents and skills to achieve
stupendous success in their lives. Many times we have a goal in mind, we
know that this is the goal of my life but due to some reason, we get so stuck in
other areas of life and in our routines, that we forget about our cherished goal.
And then after many years we remember about our goal and then wonder as to
how we can go about achieving that goal. We wonder, "If I start now, will I be able to
reach that goal?" Many of you must be having such questions in your mind.
You can also participate in the program with your questions. For that the phone
nos. are.
So, ask a lot of questions and participate in the program.
Sir, Lack of Self-confidence can be a limiting factor in many people's lives. You
train people to increase their confidence to reach their goals. So, how did you get
the self-confidence to know that this sort of training is what you wanted to do?
How did you get into this field?
Sameer: I give the credit for this to three people : My parents and My Guru. In
school I was in that category where most of the people belong. In schools, there
are 2 categories of students whose names the teachers know. The 5% whom
teachers adore because they are in the top, and the bottom 5% whom teachers
don't like because they fail. I was among the middle category of 90% of students
who are proud of the fact that they are First Class students (how it helps, God
alone knows!) but I was one of them. I never topped but nor did I ever fail. I knew
very well, what it is to have no self-confidence or to have an inferiority
complex. You can say I had a Phd. in it! I was extremely emotionally suffocated, I
did not have a good height, didn't take part in Sports. Hence, what I would do in
my future was a big question mark. My father always felt that me and my brother
should do something different in life. He taught us two things. No.1 he said that
'Do what you LOVE to do' and No. 2, he said that whatever you do in life, don't
ever do a job! My father was in Central Bank and my mother was in Cipla but
they always felt that it was no fun doing a job. Hence, they always said that do
whatever you want but don't do a job. Then the question was 'What to do?' My
father always believed that every person has a passion. You need to find out what
that passion is. So, how do you find out what that passion is? For that, while I was
in school, he sent me to various courses. I've done Photography, Computers,
Air-rifle shooting, Horse-riding etc. He used to send me to all these courses
and then after the course, he'd ask me 'So, did you enjoy it?' At that time, I used
to think, "Why is he wasting his money sending me to all these courses? These
are my days to have fun and not to do all these courses." However, I didn't have the
courage to say anything to him, so I kept attending all these courses. In 12th
standard, he sent me to an international leadership training program. And that
course changed me very much. In 7 weeks my personality underwent so
much change that the fellow who didn't have the confidence to say a simple hello
to guests who used to come home, in the 8th week did the compering of a program
which was attended by 800 people! I still remember that people were so impressed
with me that they came up to me and told me that you are a born orator! I was
laughing in mind thinking 'What born orator...if you had met me 3 months back,
you would never have said that!"
After that program, I decided that I would never do a job and then I decided that I
wanted to become a trainer. Because I felt that if I could change this much in 7
weeks, there are many people like me in this world who lack self-confidence. So,
why not choose this as a career. I went to my Guru, who had conducted courses all
over the world, he had worked in Dale Carnegie Instt for 28 years, he had been
awarded the world's best trainer award by Dale Carnegie. So I thought where else
would I get a Guru better than him. So, I went to him and told him that I want to be
a trainer like you. What should I do? He said stay with me and learn. i stayed with
him for 3 years. This was while I was in college. and after 3 years, he said, 'You
are ready!" This is how when I was 18, I started my institute.
