It was strange. Ron Sveden expected to get a diagnosis of cancer. Instead he was told
he had a small pea plant growing in his lung. Doctors suspected Sveden ate a pea seed that
went down the wrong way.
It’s interesting how things grow. What grows may be the bigger concern.
We know how prejudice grows in children if
parents do not teach human equality and worth.
We know how easy it is for frustration to grow into violence.
I’ve seen young people join gangs because
they have not experienced love and security in their homes and community.
Families need to be careful…seeds are planted
by our action and inaction, by our attitudes and our relationships.
We need to pay attention to what seeds are
growing in our communities. Are we fostering respect and care for one another, responsibility
for our common life?
This is my word of challenge. I’m Maxie Dunnam and I believe in Memphis.
