If you have a muscle bike, you're going to have monkey handle bars. Sometimes they're
called ape hangers. There are probably a lot of other things that they're called over the
years. But generally, there are a few different styles. This is the U shaped where these bars
are practically vertical. Earlier muscle bikes, the bars came out more on a Schwinn. Some
manufacturers only made the bars that came out more. There were versions that look like
a standard monkey handle bar, but then had a curl to it like a racing bar. Those were
called rams horn handle bars. Schwinn only put those out for a few years. Other manufacturers
made them for a number of years. Adjustment is very easy on these things. You always want
to use the right size wrench when you're doing anything on a bike or any other piece of equipment.
Never use a pair of pliers. Always use the right size tool. If you want to tilt the handle
bars back or forward, you loosen this bolt here and you can just tilt them back or forward.
If you wanted to remove the handle bars or adjust the height, you back off this bolt,
it's a binder bolt. When it comes up about a quarter to a half an inch, you tap it with
a hammer, and that will free up the whole stem.
