Hey guys! I’m the Smart fortwo Electric Car and I’d
like to tell you what I like about myself… and, believe it or not, what I don’t like
about me as well… come with me in this episode of Carpower360…
An electric car is expensive because it needs a bay full of batteries to store charge and
in turn provide power. The Smart is officially the cheapest electric car on the market currently
with a price tag around $28,000. The Smart Cabriolet has an electric motor,
The power comes from a 17.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and it goes to the rear wheels.
Performance for such a vehicle is surprisingly good; 0 to 60mph takes about 11.5 seconds
courtesy of a 74hp boost option. My economy ratings are the equivalent of 107mpg
in city driving. Not bad eh? Nevertheless, the elephant in the corner must
be addressed. Electricity has a habit of running out very quickly and the time taken to recharge
is painstakingly long. The ForTwo has a range of 76 miles and the charge times vary according
to the power source. Using a 240-volt connection recharges a depleted battery in 6 hours and
if it is a 110-volt then 14 hours are required. I can only fit two tall adults comfortably;
needless to say you can’t invite a third passenger on board.
The minuscule ForTwo suffers in cargo space as well as handling capabilities due to its
dull and unresponsive steering. The retractable roof is a nice feature and
is unique for the ForTwo as it is the only electric convertible available in the market.
