Ngati Kahu sends a clear warning;
if the Government begin mining on their land, they will be charged.
There will be consequences if they do, says Makere Mutu.
She also says Ngati Kahu has mandate in this region.
Fight the law with the law.
If that person doesn't leave, we'll have them removed for trespassing,
and you can do that. It's within the law.
The boundary of Ngati Kahu is situated north of Auckland
and is made up of 15 sub-tribes.
The Runanga-a-Iwi put out a statement saying
that if the Government and the Crown have plans for mining,
they should expect a few problems.
They'll be warned if they come and don't listen to the sub tribes,
we'll have you removed if you don't listen to us.
Ngati Kahu's treaty claims are still outstanding,
because the government wouldn't listen to the iwi.
In October last year Ngati Kahu won their case to stop
the Far North District Council and Carrington Farms
from building on their burial cave of Te Ana-o-Taite.
We're doing this because we are fed up
with this sort of behaviour from outsiders.
That's why we've made this statement.
Ngati Kahu will continue to protect its people and their tribal lands.
