Singapore hosted its first ever edition of the Red Bull Flugtag on Sunday, the popular
extreme sport series where art meets dodgy engineering.
35,000 people watched several contestants crash their un-flightworthy crafts into the
sea below.
Thirty-eight different contraptions took off from the makeshift runway for a brief and
comedic trip.
Contestants were judged on a combination of flight distance, creativity and showmanship.
The winners of Singapore's maiden Flugtag, or 'flight day' in German, were the Super
Sevens team.
Members of the Super Sevens formerly held jobs in the aviation industry, among them
three pilots and a flight attendant.
They won a trip to Salzburg in Austria to visit the energy drink company's Hangar-7
aviation-themed museum and restaurant.
