Chris Whitaker: We are very excited to begin construction of the Learning Resource Commons,
the new front door to Humber's North Campus.
Carol Anderson: In two year's time, you'll see a six-story building.
The primary face of the building is a curtain-wall of glass with a white frit
pattern that will give the building some architectural interest
without dating it.
Amy Weir: The new library in the LRC will actually be across two floors,
the third floor and the fourth floor and and there will be help desks on both floors.
Library staff themselves including librarians are going to have added space in their
offices to meet with students so it will be easier to have one on one consultations
for research support. There will be designated group study spaces so more space
for students to interact and work together.
All student workspaces will be wired so students can bring their laptops, plugin,
and get to work.
Jason Hunter: Right now Student Success and Engagement is quite spread out
throughout the whole campus and this will give us an opportunity to
come together in one place and it will be a much more integrated
seamless, efficient offering of services and that can only benefit students.
Paula Gouveia: If you're looking at online learning, weekend workshops,
IELTS information, it doesn't matter what it is, if it's part of LAS
it's in one spot and you can now easily find who it is to speak to
because you know exactly where they're going to be.

Melissa Gallo: We are very excited to be moving into the Learning Resource Commons.
We hire and train over 200 students a semester and so to be able to
have a space where students can come and for exmaple meet with their peer tutor
in sort of a safe environment, one that's close the library one that's close to the writing
and math centres is very exciting for us, it's absolutely ideal for students.
Rani Dhaliwal: This is going to be the hub of activity. Just imagine, 82% of our students
come on public transportation and that transportation is steps away from the building.
As they walk into this building they'll see student work being displayed, they'll see
open learning spaces, they'll see a hub of activity around student services.
Barbara Riach: The Registrar's Office, when wit moves into the LRC, which
we're very excited about, it will give us the opportunity to expand our services.
So not just in-person services for students but also to expand the number of
online services that we offer students so we know that students want to access
their student record, their registration 7/24 and this move will allow us the
opportunity to increase those offerings and to develop additional online
services for the student population here at Humber.
Ashley Watson: The L Space Gallery here at Lakeshore Campus has been
a dedicated space where we have student groups come in and portfolio shows
community groups, anything that's creative that's happening at Humber
we just want to extend that and bring it to North Campus. The new space at the LRC
is in the open area when you first come in. A lot of chance for people to move in and out.
I think it's going to have a lot of exposure.
Chris Whitaker: This is a watershed moment in Humber's history because we're
providing this new space which is going to really add to the student experience.
and we're going to be providing a one-stop-shop for many of the student services.
Having them in all one area in newly renovated space where students can
come in and have new space to study, to collaborate, to access those
services so we can continue to provide the quality environment that
our students need and deserve.
