So got some news..Bad news. SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment Of America) has confirmed that
Santa Monica studio's has laid off some of it's employee's possibility hindering or canceling
one of projects they were working on. Santa Monica Studio claims this is a result of a
cycle to re-alignment their resources for growth for future projects. But those laid
off have been give outplacement service or severance packages so they are not devastated
by the loss of income. Yay? You know this stuff worry's me. I mean it
this lay off stuff just worries me sick. I'm going to throw my two cents out there on why
company's are doing this again and again. So Here it is, my two pennys!
I believe that in order to make games bigger and more graphically polished this generation
it costs what? Money! So what's happening is game development studio's are cutting all
the lose weight they no longer need to keep their pocket book in check. Sounds like a
great business practice to prevent a company from going belly up if you ask me! The amount
of money that goes into making so of the most well loved games is immense and very risky!
You know when you beat a video game and the credit's roll and you see names going on and
on for 10 minutes. Imagine paying most those people above 50,000 dollars per year for video
game development! How long do game stay in development? 2-4 years normally! See how expensive
that truly is? Yeah it's boochu BUCKS!
I can't say I blame Santa Monica Studios but I have to give them a pat on the back for
helping those who got the shaft. That's a great company to have worked with. Most company's
that I've worked for push you outside in the cold and give you the middle finger for all
the hard work! That's life!
Anyhow, What do you think about all these video game development company's laying off
people left and right? Do you believe it will only continue in the future as budgets get
more and more tightened around the corporate checkbooks? Let me know below and be sure
to like, comment, favorite and subscribe and stay sexy out there gamers.
