An act of cruelty that has seen Matthew Coffin banned from keeping animals for 10 years.
Dangling his one-year-old cat Daisy by the tail and bouncing her up and down like a yo yo.
The footage came to light after friends saw him previously mistreat the cat and came back
the next day to film this. They then handed their evidence into the RSPCA.
The 27-year-old from Vanguard Road in Southampton initially claimed he was preparing the cat
for a visit by his naughty nephew who had a tendency to pull cats' tails. However, he
later admitted to a magistrates court that he had basically been showing off.
The RSPCA welcomed the sentence and said it showed how seriously mistreatment offences
were being viewed. The charity added that if Daisy had been older and heavier, this
could have caused serious damage to her spine
Coffin was fined £150 and ordered to pay just over £250 of costs. This video remains
a reminder than mistreatment captured on camera will be dealt with.
