Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie
vowed to veto any gay marriage bill
or legislation and he did exactly that at least
attempting to appeal the decision by the New Jersey Court which determined that
in fact
gay marriages are going to be allowed now remember
we talked about how in spite of chris Christie's kind of perceived
less conservatism or or be to be more moderate or even liberal according to
some
only go so far and that he did campaign
against gay marriage or rather being against gay marriage was part of his
campaign for governor
and that he was sticking to that however
he decided to drop that appeal gay marriage
and gay marriages officially started yesterday
in New Jersey now I wonder
if at this is going to hurt chris Christie with republicans he decided
that the official statement from Christie's office was that
they were withdrawing the appeal because
the Chief Justice left no ambiguity
about the Court's view on the issue in other words he saying they had
absolutely no shot Lewis
have successfully appealing thats more republicans punish him
up for the for this does this help or hurt his chances in 2016 Ikettes
I could see making a case for either side on the one hand
it might hurt him with a democrats
because he never actually wanted gay marriage in the only reason he pulled
the appeal
is because he had no shot actually stopping gay marriage in New Jersey
so Democrats might be angry with him because at that
republicans on the other hand could be angry with him because
even though he did tried to appeal he dropped it
and I'm sure many Republicans will say all he didn't really put up a fight he
dropped it so soon
so I actually think the most likely scenario Louis and
is this hurts him with both parties I think so but I guess he doesn't have
the might show much wiggle room with democrats anyway
but I think this almost definitely hurts them with republicans
we'll have to see as we get closer to the 2016 election if chris Christie even
really is allowed to run for president
and by that I mean not will heat will he physically be stopped
from filing the paperwork but as we know Louis if you run for president
really either party without some kind of a
implicit heard her direct blessing of sorts from the party
you get no party funding and you really don't have
a reasonable shot so we actually the
more than ever in the case of chris Christie it really matters
whether he angry is at whether he angers rather
the the party insiders because
they really can stand in the way have him being a viable presidential
candidate just by withholding funding
are definitely and that they're the ones with the real tight special interest
groups who would be
investing in in chris Christie's campaign so i i think it could be a big
problem
