or in Change/Move/Copy Fields.
Copy fields as well as move them, and keep your original formatting.
Remove author names or the year from full-reference footnotes.
Synchronization starts with a single click.
With EndNote X6, EndNote Web becomes the hub through which you can synchronize your references, groups,
and up to 5 gigabytes of attachments, even between your desktop and laptop computer.
If you do not have an EndNote Web account, you will need to create one.
If you have used EndNote Web in the past, the first time you synchronize references will require some preparation,
so please see our video on Synchronizing EndNote Desktop and Web Libraries
for information on how to prepare for your first sync.
Please note that groups and references will synchronize, but group sets and smart groups will not.
In the preferences, you can fine-tune when EndNote will automatically synchronize your references.
Options include when you open the library, when you close it, or at timed intervals.
EndNote X6 can take advantage of PubMed's Citation manager file format
to import references directly into your EndNote library.
Just select the Citation manager option from PubMed's destination list,
the number of references you want to export from the drop-down list, and click on the Create File button.
Your references are automatically imported into EndNote.
Many of us have widescreen monitors these days and have asked for a way to show our record preview, PDFs,
or Reference Window at the side of the screen instead of at the bottom.
With EndNote X6 you have many more choices for what you see and where you see it,
and you can change your options at any time using the Layout button.
One of the viewing choices users have been asking for is to open the PDF in a separate window for viewing or annotating.
With EndNote X6,
all you have to do is click on a button to have an independent, resizable window for editing references or PDF files.
When you are done with the PDF, the same button will close the window for you.
With a single mouse click you can now track if you have read a reference or not.
If you would like EndNote to automate the process of keeping track of which references you've read,
the preferences can be set to mark a reference as read based on actions
such as opening it in the Reference window or making a rating change.
A rating change can also be made at the click of a button.
To sort references by rating, just click on the Rating column heading.
In the past, emailing a reference and PDF to colleagues meant using the Copy Formatted command
to copy the reference into your email, then locating the PDF and attaching it to the email.
Today, just click on the email button in the PDF window.
EndNote will create an email, insert the text of the reference according to the selected style, and attach the PDF.
Please note this function will only work with MAPI-compliant email programs.
Capitalization rules can differ depending on language and area of study,
and you may sometimes import references that are not capitalized as you want.
You can now easily change the capitalization of words in records using the Change Case command,
with options for sentence case, lowercase, uppercase, capitalize each word, or toggle all letters between cases.
Change Case is also available in the Change/Move/Copy Fields command.
However, that's not all that's new here.
Other new features in this window include the ability to copy data between fields as well as move it,
and when copying or moving data, EndNote can retain the formatting for the data.
For years, users have been able to remove an author's name or the year from an in-text citation,
but users of full-reference footnote styles have not been able to do this—until now,
using the same Edit and Manage Citation command needed to add page numbers to the reference.
