I started stand up about a year ago. Don't know if I'm as funny as in person. But, you
now, stand up is going ok so I hope there's some funny there. I'm Ashley. I actually also
go by Bambi. It's a nickname my dad gave me. He said because I have brown eyes like a deer
but really he was just hoping my mom would get shot. To me, I love Twitter. You don't
have to be popular; someone can just see it and be like "oh this is great." Recently I
invited a Twitter follower who I had never met to a family wedding and to stay at my
parents' house. So if anyone is looking for a life coach, I'm available. Twitter helps
me write a lot. Sometimes I'll take tweets that I write and then expand on those, which
probably isn't standard for comedians. That's not really a joke, I guess, just more of a
confession. Like, I really wanted to make sure my parents were disappointed in me. And
because I really like writing the one-two liners., so sometimes the 104 characters will
just work perfect for a joke in my set. I was in the funniest person in Austin contest
a couple years. The first time I did it was the first time I went on stage, which I don't
recommend. The second time was this year. I got best joke of the night. It was "I dated
a guy, German. I mention that because he always wanted to go out for breakfast." He always
wanted to go out for breakfast, specifically for bagels. He'd be like, "There aren't any
good bagels in Germany." It's like, yeah well whose fault is that? I think maybe there's
a different thing in Austin than in other cities like L.A and New York. Here, they're
doing it because, I mean you know, they really love comedy and I love going out every night.
And maybe there aren't as many opportunities as there are in L.A. and New York. And I think,
you know, you can kind of see that in what they talk about, that, it's not racy. So do
we have couples here tonight? Don't want to admit it? Ok. I get it. Just going to as many
open mics as you can and not being afraid to just do what ever you want to no matter
how weird it is; the weirder sometimes the better. So, you know, just don't be afraid
to try what ever you want.
