JOHN: Hi, I'm John Cotten and I'm with TCP Real Estate. I'm here today in Downtown Austin,Texas
at the State Capitol. Located just 4 blocks south of The University of Texas, the Capitol
is surrounded by 22 acres of park-like setting and historical monuments, all outlining the
history of this great city and state. So if you've got a couple of minutes, we are going
to take a look around.

JOHN: The Texas State Capitol is 308 feet tall, making it the 6th tallest capitol and
one of several taller than the U.S.Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The cornerstone for the building was laid on March 2, 1885, Texas Independence Day,
and the completed building was open to the public on April 21, 1888, San Jacinto Day.
There are 17 monuments that surround the Texas Capitol. The four oldest being the Heroes
of the Alamo, Volunteer Fireman, Confederate Soldiers, and Terry's Texas Rangers. All of
which flank the tree lined great walk.
The
Capitol Rotunda features portraits of every person who has served as the president of
the Republic of Texas or Governor of the State of Texas.
The Texas State Senate Chambers is located on the second floor of the east wing of the
Capitol and to this day still contains the original walnut desks purchased in 1888. One
of the chambers most impressive aspects is the collection of historical Texas paintings.
