It's important to track your staff's worked hours
to ensure your project stays on schedule and doesn't go over budget.
In this video, we'll learn about
how actual costs are calculated
the benefits of time tracking,
using JIRA worklogs to track time,
and using Tempo Timesheets to track time.
Actual costs in Tempo Folio are calculated by worked hours
multiplied by the staff member's wage over time.
You can see the actual costs by clicking on the costs tab under the actuals section.
If you are not using time tracking, then Tempo Folio infers the staff member's effort
from the folio's work schedule and the percentage of availability
they have been assigned for that particular folio.
If you want to track the costs based only on the wages and set hours of your staff members,
then this will be enough information to keep your project on track.
But let's talk a bit about the benefits of time tracking.
If you wish to track the actual effort certain tasks take and establish a benchmark for future projects,
then implementing time tracking provides much more accurate cost information
and gives you better insight into the efficiency of your project,
including exactly how time is spent.
You also get more out of Tempo Folio's reports, like the issue costs report showing here.
You can choose to have your staff member's log work on issues within the scope of your folio in a couple of ways.
You can use JIRA worklogs and synchronize them with the folio,
or you can use our Tempo Timesheets add on for JIRA
to track work performed on JIRA issues.
It is a simple tool for painless time tracking and reporting.
To sync your JIRA or Tempo Timesheets worklogs with your folio
all you need to do is select a staff member in the staff section and click on use user worklogs
in the sidebar on the right hand side.
A window pops up asking you to confirm.
This is really handy if some of your members are tracking their time and others aren't,
or if you simply wish to switch back and forth between using worklogs
and the planned effort of a member to compare and contrast the different options.
Alternatively, you can change the configuration of your folio to do this automatically.
