My name is Alan and I was a victim of Identity Theft.
I called the IRS to find out where my tax refund was. Um I had actually filed two years
at the same time. I was filing late, and I got one check back, and I’m like where’s
my other check?
So after multiple attempts, I got through to a person, and um, the IRS put me on hold
and said um, um You’ve been a victim of identity theft.
I was really shocked. And frustrated [laughs] more than anything.
Meanwhile, it’s going to be, um 6-12 weeks before I’ll hear anything from them. And
my tax preparer tells me, it could be 9-12 months before the whole thing is resolved.
I really would like to get to the bottom of it. And um I would almost rather that it was
somebody trying to get money, but I have the sense somebody was trying to mess my life
up.
If they’re not caught, you know who’s going to stop them?
There’s so many things that can happen to you in the world, you know, and identity theft
is like, you just live your life, try to be a decent person, pay your taxes, even though
sometimes you may be late, um, definitely not fair.
I don’t have any evidence of fraud on um, personal accounts you know. And nobody has
taken money out of my account. So from what I understand, the IRS didn’t even lose money,
so you know here I am waiting um, and I don’t know when it’s going to be over.
