This is a non-title event for one fall or remaining television time.
In the red corner, at 248 pounds, from Tampa, Florida,
Paul Orndorff.
And in the blue corner, at 252 pounds, from Omaha, Nebraska,
the North American Heavyweight Champion, Ted DiBiase!
BOYD: There you have the introduction.
(BELL DINGING)
There's the bell called for by Alfred Neely.
Former North American Heavyweight Champion, Paul Orndorff,
against the North American Heavyweight title holder presently, Ted DiBiase.
What a battle this should really be, Ernie Ladd.
ERNIE: Boyd, I must say this,
the two finest made cars in America got to be the Cadillac and the Lincoln.
I think the Cadillac and the Lincoln is in the ring right now.
Paul Orndorff is the Cadillac, for my money.
Hey, now, 'cause I drive Cadillac, that's what I drive.
Paul Orndorff is gonna take it home to him.
Ain't no love between these two men, I guarantee you that.
BOYD: It's always you and I on opposite sides.
You own a Cadillac, I own a Lincoln.
ERNIE: Boyd, you own a Lincoln, I own a Cadillac.
I do not care what you say. I'm going with Paul Orndorff.
'Cause I've had many a battle with Paul Orndorff.
Paul Orndorff and he's rough.
DiBiase's down.
Leapfrog by DiBiase.
All right, he may have him.
BOYD: Fast-moving action.
BOYD: Paul Orndorff and Ted DiBiase.
And there's Orndorff thinking he had the three-count.
He think he's short changed, but only two.
ERNIE: That looked like a short count to me.
BOYD: Only two by Alfred Neely, no doubt about it.
ERNIE: It could have been three if I was the referee.
BOYD: Both men have a lot of respect for each other.
ERNIE: Punch to the stomach by Paul Orndorff.
Paul Orndorff was going to office. Paul Orndorff really wants
to get this match right here on national TV.
Tackle by Paul Orndorff.
Oh.
These guys are really moving, ladies and gentlemen.
Ted DiBiase thought he could have had a three-count.
Earlier Paul Orndorff thought he could have had a three-count.
Paul Orndorff has definitely said he has a counter for Ted DiBiase.
Figure Four Leglock.
And I'm looking forward if Ted DiBiase get that Figure Four Leglock on Paul Orndorff.
I'm gonna find out what that count is
'cause as long as I've been wrestling I haven't seen anybody...
BOYD: Yeah, well, the object for this match, Ernie Ladd,
and if Paul Orndorff says he can break it.
I saw Bob Roop reiterating time and time again last week
that Paul Orndorff could break the Figure Four hold of Ted DiBiase.
ERNIE: Well, Boyd, I'd love to see it, Boyd.
If Paul Orndorff breaks the Figure Four, I personally think
that Ted DiBiase's time as North American Champion won't be long.
Paul Orndorff is taking it to him.
DiBiase does not want to give it up either.
BOYD: Fibbin' him.
ERNIE: Another leg-sweep.
Boyd Pierce, this is what I call a nonstop action.
BOYD: Nonstop.
ERNIE: They're on the mat longer than they've been
in the course of the entire match-up.
And DiBiase's trying to soften the area.
See one of the things about one the great wrestlers,
you pick out an area and you try to soften it,
you try to weaken the guy in that particular area,
then take the fight to him and defeat him.
BOYD: This is what we say, professional wrestling,
man against man for supremacy in that ring.
ERNIE: Well, one thing I must say about these two athletes,
I don't think neither one will give up,
you have to go out and beat the other guy.
Yes, indeed, I haven't seen on no occasion that DiBiase's given up.
I never seen on any occasion that Paul Orndorff has ever given up.
And I have had a lot of matches against Paul Orndorff, he is a tough cookie.
He's a real tough cookie, look at him.
He's going to work on the champion now.
Paul Orndorff wants to prove his point.
Reversal by Ted DiBiase.
Orndorff has turned...
BOYD: Oh, going behind now.
BOYD: DiBiase smacked his eye right into that corner turnbuckle.
ERNIE: He better get up. He better get up.
Oh, what a tremendous knee drop to the side of the head.
BOYD: He took a nasty leg, Ernie Ladd, over in the far corner
with that eye and head going in at full speed.
ERNIE: Paul Orndorff is the type of man that will take advantage of it.
Paul Orndorff is certainly going to work on the champion right here.
BOYD: Yeah, he's...
ERNIE: Boyd, do you notice, do you notice that Paul,
he never gets too far back from his man while he's got him in trouble.
Another reversal by Ted DiBiase.
BOYD: Flying dropkick from a prone position.
Ted DiBiase proving why he is the champion.
Coming around with those right forearms, legal.
And to the midsection.
A power knee lift!
ERNIE: Knee lift!
BOYD: He's got it all together and you'll have to admit that.
ERNIE: What a powerslam. He's going for the Figure Four.
BOYD: Now we'll see if he can break it or not.
ERNIE: We'll find out!
BOYD: See whether he can break it or not. You say he can break it.
I say he can't.
ERNIE: Paul Orndorff's in pain.
BOYD: Bob Roop says he can break it.
ERNIE: He's rolling from side to side.
BOYD: Let's see if he can.
Can he lock it in, get away with it? Can he get him out of it?
ERNIE: Looked like Paul was trying to turn him.
BOYD: That's right.
BOYD: Paul Orndorff doing something that already...
ERNIE: Paul has never given up, he's not giving up.
BOYD: We have only 10 minutes remaining.
ERNIE: He's turning, he's turning!
ERNIE: Oh, looks like Ted DiBiase's in a lot of pain.
Paul Orndorff has bridged up.
DiBiase sounds like he wants to get up.
BOYD: Oh, look at Paul Orndorff...
ERNIE: Look at the pain that DiBiase's in.
BOYD: ...far side, really letting Ted DiBiase have it.
Both men now.
ERNIE: I cannot believe this, Boyd Pierce.
If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I would not believe it!
Ted DiBiase's crying in pain.
Look at DiBiase in pain!
I love this Ted DiBiase... But he won't give up. Why don't the man give up?
BOYD: He got a lot of strength...
ERNIE: Why don't he give up?
BOYD: ...a lot of courage.
ERNIE: Listen, listen to the people.
DiBiase's about to pass out!
BOYD: The fans saying, "Go, Ted, go!"
ERNIE: DiBiase's about to pass out. He won't give up!
Why don't the man give up?
Snap his leg. He's gonna get his leg snapped.
I cannot believe this, Boyd Pierce!
BOYD: And, like you said, Ernie, a good way to receive a broken leg right now.
ERNIE: Look how DiBiase's trying to reverse it back.
Looks like he's trying to reverse it back.
DiBiase looks like he's about to...
BOYD: Only one minute, one minute time left.
ERNIE: DiBiase's saying something. DiBiase's saying something.
Listen to that, he's screaming.
Orndorff has said, "Are you going to give it up?"
DiBiase said, "No!" No, look like he's about to pass out.
Boyd, I wouldn't have believed this if anybody...
BOYD: Well, he's trying to hang on. The time clock is running.
ERNIE: He's pulling the referee and everything.
BOYD: Both men perspiring profusely, a rugged battle.
But he won't give it up, Ernie.
ERNIE: I cannot believe this. I didn't know DiBiase had this much in him.
BOYD: Thirty seconds remaining.
ERNIE: Did not know DiBiase had this much fight in him.
BOYD: Thirty seconds going.
Next week, "Precious" Paul Ellering returns saying
he will challenge the Iron Sheik with a Persian Club,
but right now what a whale of a battle as our time is running down.
ERNIE: I cannot believe...
BOYD: Time is all gone, so until next week, ladies and gentlemen,
for Ernie Ladd, our guest commentator,
I'm Boyd Pierce saying goodbye, everybody.
(BELL DINGING)
There you see it.
ERNIE: I believe DiBiase's...
BOYD: No winner. Time is gone on Mid-South Wrestling.
ERNIE: No, he's not out. I can't believe this!
(BELL DINGING)
