Advanced Features Hello! My name is Jason Beach and in this
screencast I’m gonna show you how you can access the advanced features built into iMovie
11. Now, by default, these are not turned on. To access these advanced features, what
you’ll need to do is go to “iMovie” in the top left corner of the screen, and
then choose “Preferences,” and make sure you check the box that says “Show Advanced
Tools.” Now this gives you access to the “Dual” mode, where you can add keyboard
controls, cutaways, picture in picture, green screens, and some additional replacement modes
as well. Now, once that box is checked you can then close it, and to access these features
it’s pretty simple. All you have to do is simply take either a movie clip or a picture
that you want to use and simply select it, then drag and drop it on top of your photo.
When you do that, it’s gonna automatically pop up the advanced menu. Now, you can see
that you have the option for “Replace,” which will obviously replace that photo with
the one that you just selected, or “Insert.” Of course “Cutaway,” “Picture in Picture,”
these are all pretty self-explanatory. “Green Screen” and “Blue Screen” I do wanna
talk about. iMovie allows you to shoot footage behind a green screen, if you have a participant
standing there and you have a green screen behind them you can replace the background
with footage. It could be live action, or it could be a still image which works very
well. Now the big difference between “Green Screen” and “Blue Screen” is just simply
the color of the screen in the back and what color the actual participant can wear. So
obviously you don’t want to wear anything green when you’re standing in front of a
green screen or your outfit will also be faded out when you replace the background with something
different. Now, the blue screen just gives you the same effect, except you don’t wanna
wear anything blue. The blue screen will allow you to wear something green, so that’s a
nice feature that they’ve added in this new version of iMovie 11. Now for this example
I just wanted to use the Picture in Picture, so when I choose that as you can see your
picture’s gonna appear right here. And I can move that around my screen anywhere I
want to. I can also increase or decrease the size of that, and you’ve got some guidelines
that’ll pop up if you go too far to make sure you don’t get out of the frame. And
that’s how you access the Advanced Features in iMovie 11
